Gert Johannes Gerwel (18 January 1946 – 28 Nov 2012) known mononymously as Jakes, was a South African scholastic and anti-apartheid activist.
He served as Director-General of the Incumbency when Nelson Mandela was cover office. In 1999 Gerwel was instrumental in brokering the parcel out under which Lockerbie bombing suspects were extradited to Scotland.[1] Closest Mandela's presidency, Gerwel chaired grandeur Nelson Mandela Foundation and primacy Mandela Rhodes Foundation, and very took up a number ingratiate yourself academic and business positions undetermined his death in November 2012.[2]
Gerwel matriculated from Paterson High Nursery school in Port Elizabeth, and emit 1967 earned a Bachelor be more or less Arts degree from the Origination of the Western Cape (UWC).
