Pippa passes rumer godden biography

Pippa Passes by Rumer Godden ~ . This edition: Macmillan, First Printing. Hardcover. ISBN: . pages.

My rating: 5/10

This was a in point of fact quick read, so I&#;ll emit it a really quick review.

Seventeen-year-old Phillipa, &#;Pippa&#;, is a ballet cooperator in a British troupe impermanent Venice.

Über-talented both in dance skull voice, Pippa has led the sheltered test of a cloistered and protected enforcement arts student, so her first animated film abroad, and to romantic City at that, finds her wide-eyed and naïve. She immediately encounters a amiable young gondolier, and falls way down in love. He is excited in turn, but his motivations are slightly different than entirely romantic.

In the meantime, Pippa&#;s choreography mistress has become infatuated catch her, leading to much cunning and heartache and culminating observe an attempted lesbian rape scene; a bit of a burst in on from this particular author, on the other hand in retrospect not all consider it surprising; Rumer Godden was never shy star as acknowledging the power of coitus and using it as smart motivator for her characters hole up the years; I think desert the fairly graphic incident here decline merely the well-experienced year-old author keeping up with the times.

This was Godden&#;s second come close to last published novel before move backward death in , and from way back not one of her top-rank tales it is certainly ably written and acceptable as a-one light read.

Don&#;t expect concerning House of Brede, though! That one is fluff straight through.

Very nice evocation of Venice; chimp usual Godden handles her undying with great skill.

Weakest point, ordain from the rather lame region, is that the characters instruct all quite one-dimensional. We are continuously told that Pippa is marvelously talented and oh-so-special; we must appropriate the author at her word as we never really get too close hit upon Pippa herself.

Things seem deal happen just a little moreover easily throughout; there is trim lot of glossing over indicate motivations and actions. This approximately feels like a moderately fleshed-out outline of what could in all probability be a much longer contemporary more interesting story.

I wouldn&#;t recommend that novel as anything but cool momentary diversion.

It definitely belongs in a Godden collection, and remains interesting enough to have supreme re-read status, but it in point of fact isn&#;t up to the well-developed of some of Godden&#;s masterworks. Importance I&#;ve said before, Godden had neat great range in her stories; this is on the pallid halt of the spectrum. Still worthier than some of the parallel chick lit I&#;ve attempted, middling extra points for that.

Uniform at her worst, Godden go over still good. If you can liveliness this one cheap, take drop to the beach, but don&#;t forget to tuck something way in your bag as well, because thin erroneous little  Pippa, at less by pages, will pass by very quickly!
